What is Stress?
Stress shows itself in a range of ways. The most common form of stress is a mix of anxiety and depression. You might find that you only feel anxious or depressed but never both. But it is more common to find both around at the same time. We can add into this mix other things such as panic, anger, sleep and drink problems. Social factors and physical health must also be taken into account. These can feed each other. Put these all together and we are talking about Stress. If you attend a Stress Control Course you will get information and answers to common questions people ask about stress such as:
• What is stress?
• When does stress become a problem?
• The stigma of stress
• Who gets stress?
• How common is stress?
• What causes stress?
• What keeps stress going?
• What can stress do to you?
• The Fight/Flight survival reaction
• Other survival reactions
• Some things people have said about their stress
• Common questions people ask about stress
• The mental health journey
This programme developed by Dr.Jim White a psychologist from Glasgow offers really clear information and advice to people who would like to learn more about stress, what causes stress and how people can manage their stress without having to seek medical help. Over the next four years Preparing for Life will be running regular Stress Control Groups that are open to anyone who wishes to attend. There is no charge for attending and everybody who attends will receive a set of 10 booklets with all the information and more that you can take away with you
