Childcare is one of the most important issues for parents. Where to send your child, how much you can afford to pay, choosing the right setting for your child and making sure the hours suit your family. These are difficult decisions that only your family can make.

Preparing for life would like to remind you that it is important for you to do your homework and thoroughly investigate the places that you are thinking of sending your child to. Talk to your friends, neighbours and relatives. Ask them what they have heard about the place, the staff and the childcare policies.

Childcare is a complex issue and the bottom line is that you should trust your instincts and not leave your child with anyone that you don't have 100% confidence in.

Preparing for Life would recommend that you contact the Local Childcare Resource Service (formerly known as the Childcare Bureau) - Northside Partnership in Coolock Development Centre, Bunratty Drive, Coolock, Dublin 17.
 

The Local Childcare Resource Service provides thorough information, advice and training on behalf of Dublin City Childcare Committee and is run by The Northside Partnership. The service has a database with details of all local childcare providers, including home-based child-minders. It supports parents by offering up to date information about their childcare options, including advice on whether a child is eligible for a free pre-school year or state-subsidised childcare. The Local Childcare Resource Service also has an information and Resource Room that is currently open from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Monday to Thursday.
